State of Model Context Protocol in Financial Services 2026
We surveyed senior technical leaders in financial services (CTOs, Principal Engineers, and Directors of AI Platform) to understand where the industry actually stands with MCP adoption. Explore the report for a better understanding of current use cases, obstacles and accountability.
What’s Inside
Financial services firms are bullish on MCP to unlock the value of AI agents, but they are moving cautiously in the absence of guardrails. Security concerns, legacy system complexity, and data quality issues are slowing the path from pilot to production, but leaders are adopting MCP across roles as a competitive advantage.
- Broad production use trails other industries; just 3% of FSI respondents use MCP in production, and only 12% have a formal pilot
- 28% of respondents tagged MCP adoption as a top-5 company-level initiative (Critical + High), roughly in line with the 32% survey average
- Early adopters will be data specialists: 86% of respondents see them as primary MCP users
- Top use cases: fraud detection and prevention (51%), internal process automation (44%), code generation and technical documentation (44%)
- Security concerns top the obstacle list at 58%, and FSI firms enforce regulatory data boundaries (GDPR, FINRA, OCC) at 61%, far above the 41% survey average
- 33% host MCP servers mostly on-premises or in a private cloud, well above the 20% average across industries
